It has been revealed that Halit Ergül, the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel, which has become a grave for 78 people, has expanded the land of another hotel, Gazelle Resort Hotel, which was decided to be closed at midnight, by a thousand tricks, increasing it 13 times. It has been learned that Ergül's Gazelle Resort Hotel, built on 16.5 acres of land near Gölcük, has been expanded to 220 acres through forest occupations and "picnic" games.
A striking decision was made at Gazelle Resort Hotel, owned by Halit Ergül, the owner of Grand Kartal Hotel, where 78 people lost their lives in Bolu Kartalkaya.
HOTEL MANAGER ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON
While the hotel was hastily closed, the manager, Ahmet Demir, was arrested and sent to prison as part of the investigation into the fire disaster.
FOREST OCCUPATION REVEALED
While the developments made a big noise, a new scandal involving Halit Ergül overshadowed the events. As the pain of the fire disaster, which claimed the lives of 78 people, continues, Ergül's forest occupation near Gölcük has come to light.
VILLAGERS PROTESTED
It was learned that the land of Gazelle Resort Hotel, owned by Ergül, has grown 13 times due to forest occupation over the years, while villagers from Emen and Karacasu claimed that they could no longer use the land where they had grazed their animals and cultivated barley, wheat, and vetch for over 100 years, not even to take a shortcut because of Gazelle Hotel.
"RENTING 200 DECARES AS A PICNIC AREA...."
According to a report in Hürriyet Newspaper, villagers and municipal officials made the following statements; "They built Gazelle Hotel on 16 decares of land they obtained from Karacasu Municipality in 2005, and it became operational in 2012. They started to illegally occupy the approximately 20 decares of forest land around it for parking, tennis courts, and children's areas. As if that wasn't enough, they rented the adjacent 200 decares of land by declaring it 'Yarenlerdere Picnic Area' and surrounded it. We applied to the state, saying, 'This is forest land, we villagers have been using it since ancient times, remove it from the forest under the 2B law and sell it to us.' It was in vain; it was as if a hand reached out, and it was given to Halit Ergül, who was not given to us; while no account was asked for his occupation, it was turned into a rental picnic area."
