The total reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) increased by 2 billion 742 million dollars last week, reaching a record level. According to CBRT data, as of September 20, total reserves rose from 153 billion 550 million dollars to 156 billion 392 million dollars. GOLD RESERVES ALSO REACHED A RECORD LEVELGross reserves increased from 92 billion 155 million dollars to 94 billion 109 million dollars, while gold reserves rose from 61 billion 395 million dollars to 62 billion 283 million dollars. Thus, gold reserves also reached a record level. Net international reserves, which were 48 billion 778 million dollars the previous week, increased by 2 billion 997 million dollars to reach 51 billion 775 million dollars in the relevant week. STATEMENT FROM MINISTER ŞİMŞEKFollowing the Central Bank's historic record in reserves, a statement also came from the Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek. Minister Şimşek stated, "Our gross reserves reached a historic high of 156.4 billion dollars. Excluding swaps, net reserves increased by 90.5 billion dollars compared to May of last year, reaching 29.9 billion dollars, the highest level in 5.5 years. Our reserve adequacy has exceeded the threshold level according to international recognition. Thanks to our program, the decreasing current account deficit and increasing reserves are reducing our risk premium while strengthening our financial stability."
