One of Turkey's major energy projects, the floating natural gas production platform "Osman Gazi," set sail towards the Black Sea, passing through the Bosphorus on the 572nd anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul. The passage of the giant platform, which will take 11 hours, was captured from the air by a drone.

One of Turkey's strategic projects in the energy sector, the floating natural gas production platform "Osman Gazi," is passing through the Bosphorus Strait towards the Black Sea on the 572nd anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul. The platform's magnificent journey, accompanied by tugboats from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, was captured by a drone.

In a statement from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, it was noted that during the passage of the Osman Gazi Floating Natural Gas Production Platform through the Bosphorus Strait, under the coordination of the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center affiliated with the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, 9 pilot captains, the Nene Hatun Emergency Response Vessel, and the tugboats KURTARMA-5, KURTARMA-6, KURTARMA-7, KURTARMA-8, KURTARMA-9, KURTARMA-11, KURTARMA-12, and the KEGM-9 fast rescue (lifeboat) participated in the operation.

The Bosphorus crossing is expected to take approximately 11 hours, and Osman Gazi is planned to dock at Filyos Port on June 1.

TO START OPERATIONS IN 2026

The platform, which will double natural gas production in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea, will begin its 20-year mission here one year later.

The platform has a maximum natural gas processing capacity of 10.5 million cubic meters and a maximum gas transfer capacity of 10 million cubic meters.

With a total length of 298.5 meters, a width of 56 meters, and a depth of 29.5 meters, the platform has a personnel capacity of 140.

The main gas transmission line from the platform to the shore will be 161 kilometers long. The natural gas processed on the platform will be delivered to the national grid in a ready-to-use state via this line.

The floating production platform, which will start operations in the middle of next year, is expected to double the current natural gas production in the Black Sea to 20 million cubic meters per day.

WILL MEET THE NATURAL GAS NEEDS OF 8 MILLION HOMES

The "Osman Gazi" platform, expected to make a significant contribution to Turkey in the energy sector, will operate in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. It aims to double the current daily natural gas production of 9.5 million cubic meters to 20 million cubic meters. This increase is expected to meet the natural gas needs of approximately 8 million households. The giant platform, with a total length of 298.5 meters, a width of 56 meters, and a depth of 29.5 meters, will operate with a personnel capacity of 140. The processed natural gas will be transferred to the national grid via a 161-kilometer main gas transmission line extending from the seabed to the shore.
