The trial of 47 defendants, including 22 who are in custody, who are accused of unfairly profiting by transferring babies to hospitals they have agreements with and causing their deaths through negligent behavior, continues on its fourth day. In the hearing held in the conference hall of the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, Renas Kılıç, who transferred babies to hospitals associated with the gang, made a defense statement. "I WAS INJECTING BABIES"Kılıç, who stated that he started working in 2017, said, "I started working to protect Reyap. Later, I began working at Esenyurt Municipality. I also took on duties at the hospital. I was injecting babies. I wanted to reach a certain position politically and in terms of status. I had a love for that hospital. I was doing my job there as part of my duty," he said. CRITICAL QUESTION FROM THE JUDGEThe judge asked the defendant, "There are allegations that you provided financial benefits to facilitate baby transfers. What do you say about this?" The defendant replied, "112 is not such a simple system; I do not accept it." "THERE WAS PRESSURE ABOUT RECEIVING MONEY FROM FIRAT SARI"Renas Kılıç stated that he had no communication with Fırat Sarı other than the condition of the patients, saying, "I did not receive money from Fırat Sarı; I gave money to Fırat Sarı. In the police report, I was pressured about receiving money from Fırat Sarı. If I had received money, I would not be in this situation. I absolutely do not accept this; it is impossible. I told Fırat Sarı that he should not tell me when there is a patient request," he said. Continuing his defense, Kılıç said, "There were foreign patients. When a blue code came, that patient would first definitely stay in the incubator, and then the transfer would be made. My duty was to coordinate with the nearest pharmacy when patients came from district heads or municipalities and direct them to that pharmacy," he stated. The judge asked the defendant about the conversation between him and Fehmi Alperen, "If you say do not send, I will not send." The defendant responded, "We were not talking about a patient here. We were discussing the dismissal of certain individuals. My wife works at 112 in Hasdal; she is a civil servant," he said. "I HAVE BEEN IN CUSTODY FOR 7 MONTHS, MY GOAL IS NOT TO KILL ANYONE"Continuing his defense, Renas Kılıç said, "I have been in custody for seven months; my goal is not to kill anyone. I work within the municipality. My aim was not to get involved in these matters and gain profit; I wanted to be the mayor of Esenyurt Municipality. I absolutely do not believe I will be found guilty. These children passed away; I was going to their homes and providing their treatments myself; how could I harm them? I did not receive any instructions from Fırat Sarı. I was not receiving money per baby; I was receiving entitlements," he stated. The public prosecutor asked the defendant about the conversation regarding drug supply between him and Fehmi Alperen. The defendant replied, "There were other drugs; we were obtaining drugs from different hospitals. I am not a hospital owner; how can I receive money from SGK? I do not accept the allegations of public damage against me," he said. THE HEARING WAS ADJOURNEDAfter the defense of the defendant Renas Kılıç, the court adjourned the hearing. The hearing will continue with the defenses of the other defendants after the break.
