Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet was suspended from her position following her arrest as part of an investigation against her. The Ministry of Interior announced that the decision was taken as a temporary measure under Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
The Ministry of Interior announced that İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, who was arrested within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been temporarily suspended from duty as a precautionary measure. It was stated that the decision was taken in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipality Law No. 5393.
SUSPENDED FROM DUTY AFTER ARREST
According to the statement made by the Ministry, within the judicial process carried out against Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet as part of the investigation numbered 2026/102274 by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an arrest warrant was issued with the decision dated July 23, 2026, and inquiry number 2026/611 of the Istanbul 7th Criminal Court of Peace.
It was reported that Hürriyet was arrested on charges of "Establishing an Organization with the Intent to Commit Crimes," "Bid Rigging in Public Institutions and Organizations," and "Accepting Bribes."
