On August 30, at the graduation ceremony of the Military Academy, after the new lieutenants shouted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" following the departure of the protocol from the ceremony area, an investigation was launched regarding their sword oath. CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu announced that a notification was made regarding the referral of Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu and Lieutenant İzzet Talip Akarsu to the High Disciplinary Board "for the purpose of imposing a separation penalty from the Turkish Armed Forces." Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted to the decision.

In a statement on social media after the graduation of the Military Academy, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş used the following expressions regarding the lieutenants who took the sword oath and shouted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal":

"Loyalty to Atatürk is not a crime, and it can never be. The determined stance shown by our young lieutenants, who were referred for discipline, saying 'We are the soldiers of Atatürk,' carries the spirit of the Republic. I kiss our young people on their foreheads."

The students, led by the top student Ebru Eroğlu, took an oath in unison with the following words: "We swear that our hands will be found against those who will reach for the independence of the secular, democratic Republic of Turkey, the indivisible integrity of the country, the honor and dignity of the great Turkish nation, and every inch of our sacred homeland, and our swords will always be sharp and ready. We are the children of the Turkish future. We were born with honor, and we will live with honor. How happy is the one who says I am a Turk!"
