Famous showman Mehmet Ali Erbil has been accused of illegal betting advertising and encouraging people to engage in it, leading to an indictment prepared for the crime of 'encouraging individuals to advertise and otherwise engage in fixed-odds or pool betting or gambling based on sports events,' with a request for a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years.
HIS LAWYERS APPEALED
While the investigation was ongoing, Erbil was brought to the courthouse and the duty judge ruled that he should be subjected to judicial control measures in the form of 'house arrest.' The date for Erbil to appear before the judge was also set. His trial will begin on December 30 at the Istanbul 20th Criminal Court of First Instance, and prior to the first hearing, his lawyers Şeyda Yıldırım and Kübra Aslan submitted an appeal to lift the judicial control measure of 'house arrest' imposed on their client.
HOUSE ARREST LIFTED
As a result of the appeal, the court decided to lift the judicial control measure of 'house arrest,' while ruling that Erbil must report to the nearest police station to his home every Monday to 'sign in' as a form of judicial control measure.
