After the increased rainfall last week, temperatures have dropped to seasonal norms, while the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) issued a warning about nitrogen dioxide. As of this morning, the high-pressure air entering the country has caused hazy weather in the western regions, and it is expected that this situation will spread to new cities starting tomorrow. IT WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY ITS BAD SMELLIn the weather report shared on MGM's website, the term 'hazy' is mentioned for many cities on Saturday, and in these cities, a bad smell will also be felt due to nitrogen dioxide gas. WHAT IS NITROGEN DIOXIDE?Nitrogen dioxide is a reddish-brown and toxic gas. This gas has a sharp odor that resembles chlorine gas. Found in very small amounts in the lower layers of the atmosphere and near the ground, this industrially sourced gas is produced as a result of decomposition and chemical reactions occurring in the upper atmosphere. Due to its low concentration, nitrogen dioxide, despite being a toxic gas, does not directly threaten human health. However, nitrogen dioxide that appears on days of rising pressure causes a bad smell in the air reminiscent of chlorine.
