"Palestine has halted Al Jazeera's broadcasts."

01.01.2025 23:50

The Palestinian Authority has decided to terminate Al Jazeera's broadcasts and activities in the country. The justification for this decision is that the broadcasts contain provocative content that interferes in Palestine's internal affairs. This decision aligns with a similar ban previously imposed by Israel.

Following Israel, it has been reported that the Palestinian Authority has also decided to terminate the broadcasts of the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television in the country and temporarily suspend all its activities.

PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY SHUTS DOWN AL JAZEERA

According to a report by the Palestinian official news agency WAFA, a committee consisting of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Information has made a decision regarding the broadcasts and activities of Al Jazeera television in the country. The report stated that the decision includes terminating Al Jazeera television's broadcasts in Palestine, and it was expressed that Al Jazeera has suspended its office in Palestine, all its activities, and the work of the journalists working under it.

"THEY VIOLATED THE LAWS"

The report alleged that Al Jazeera television has violated the laws in Palestine, emphasizing that its activities have been temporarily suspended until Al Jazeera corrects its legal status. The report also claimed that the justification for this decision is that "provocative content that interferes with Palestine's internal affairs has been broadcasted on Al Jazeera television." No statement has yet been made by Al Jazeera television regarding the matter.

Palestine Suspended Al Jazeera's Broadcasts

On the other hand, recently, forces affiliated with the Palestinian Authority have been conducting operations against armed groups that claim to be "resisting against Israel" in certain areas of the West Bank. In the "operation" carried out by Palestinian forces in the Jenin Refugee Camp, 9 people had lost their lives.

AL JAZEERA'S ACTIVITIES IN ISRAEL HAVE ALSO BEEN TERMINATED

According to a statement made by the Israeli Prime Minister's Press Office on May 5, the proposal presented by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to "terminate the activities of the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television in Israel and close its offices" was unanimously accepted during the Cabinet Meeting.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated in a post on his social media account, "The government I lead has unanimously decided to terminate the provocative Al Jazeera in Israel." As part of the decision, it was decided to terminate the activities of television channels and websites under Al Jazeera, suspend their broadcasts, impose access restrictions on their websites, close their offices, and confiscate their equipment.

Israeli authorities raided the hotel room that Al Jazeera was using as a temporary office in occupied East Jerusalem and confiscated all the equipment there.
