Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has been involved in a scandal that has unsettled citizens. After excavation waste dumped along the main road in the Sincan district mixed with rainwater, a foul smell and smoke emerged. AFAD teams conducted an investigation in the area and took samples. Citizens stated that the region falls under the responsibility of ABB and demanded an immediate resolution to the problem.
In the Yenikent area of Sincan district in Ankara, construction waste dumped by the roadside reacted chemically after the rain, releasing smoke and a strong odor. The incident caused panic, while AFAD teams conducted an investigation in the area and took samples.
It was reported that the waste, which was allegedly dumped illegally in the vacant area on the main artery, became active with the rainfall. Local residents reported the situation to the authorities due to the intense smell and smoke. Teams that arrived in response to the notification took safety measures and made measurements in the vicinity.
Citizens claimed that the area in question falls under the responsibility of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, arguing that there is a lack of oversight.
"WASTE ACTIVATED WITH RAIN"
Retired citizen Selçuk Öz, who noticed the incident, described the situation with the following words: "There has been waste dumped here for about 10-12 days. When it rained, the material practically activated. Smoke came out, and a very strong odor spread. Thinking it could be toxic, I called 112. AFAD came and took measurements. They said it wasn't a dangerous situation, but the smell is unbearable."
Öz pointed out the risk of the waste mixing into riverbeds and forested areas, urging the authorities to take urgent action.
"WE CAN'T BREATHE DUE TO THE SMELL"
Another resident of the area, Hakan Deniz, stated that the smell has reached unbearable levels, saying, "There is waste on the main road next to the Ayaş–Beypazarı road. It mixes into the streams with the rain. It poses a serious threat to human health. This is an area belonging to ABB. Authorities must intervene as soon as possible. We can't stay here because of the smell."
