In the Menemen district of Izmir, a landslide caused by heavy rainfall resulted in the collapse of a retaining wall. In the incident, 2 buildings and 7 vehicles were damaged, and 151 people were evacuated for safety reasons. Residents who went outside due to the noise they heard during the night were shocked by the scene they encountered.
Izmir was hit by heavy rain. Due to the downpour that started to be effective yesterday, many homes and businesses were flooded.
THE COLLAPSED RETAINING WALL SWALLOWED 7 VEHICLES
In the 29 October neighborhood of the Ulukent district of Menemen, a landslide occurred at 04:41 due to the heavy rain, causing the retaining wall to collapse. Upon notification, health, fire, Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD), and Menemen Municipality Search and Rescue (MAKUR) teams were dispatched to the area. Damage occurred to 2 buildings and 7 vehicles in the area where the retaining wall collapsed.
151 PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED
The teams evacuated a total of 151 people from 3 buildings for safety reasons. Those evacuated were hosted at the Menemen Municipality Social Facilities. The teams' work in the area is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the area was captured by drone.
