In an interview with Abdurrahman Yazıcı on Haberler.com, Prof. Dr. Serap Durusoy addressed Turkey's economic issues. Reminding that health expenditures have increased in Turkey, host Abdurrahman Yazıcı asked his guest whether it is possible to say that the problems of retirees are intertwined in the current situation. Prof. Dr. Serap Durusoy made striking statements regarding inflation and the pension system in Turkey, stating, "Currently, retirees in Turkey are experiencing serious grievances. I am also a retired civil servant. But let me say this, there is a significant difference between Bağkur retirees and SSGK retirees, as well as between SSK and Bağkur retirees. The needs of retirees are not being met in any area. The economic management insists on fiscal discipline. The biggest problem for civil servants and retirees is wages. Inflation is a chronic problem for Turkey," she expressed. Prof. Dr. Serap Durusoy continued her statements as follows: "Of course, the biggest problem for civil servants and retirees is wages. I can already say that these wages are facing serious relative poverty due to both being suppressed and the decrease in purchasing power caused by high inflation. Yes, inflation is a macroeconomic instability and a chronic problem for our country, but I think the most important problem in Turkey can be said to be income distribution inequality beyond inflation."
