The father of university student Rojin Kabaiş, who died under suspicious circumstances in Van, Nizamettin Kabaiş, stated that he has received threatening messages from unidentified individuals due to his ongoing fight for justice. Kabaiş mentioned that he forwarded the messages, which said, "Drop this case, we have you," to the prosecutor's office. He emphasized his determination to uncover the truth behind his daughter's death by saying, "I can give up my life, but I will not give up this struggle."
Rojin Kabaiş, a 21-year-old first-year student in the Department of Preschool Teaching at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, went missing on the evening of September 27, 2024, just three days after starting school, along the shores of Lake Van. The young woman's lifeless body was found 18 days later, on the beach of Mollakasım Village, 24 kilometers away from where she disappeared. In the report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK), although DNA samples from two different men were detected on Rojin Kabaiş's body, the report's release months later and the classification of her death as "suicide" sparked public outrage.
"THERE ARE DNA SAMPLES FROM TWO DIFFERENT MEN, HOW CAN IT BE SUICIDE?"
In the ATK report dated October 10, it was stated that the first DNA was found in the chest area, and the second was found inside the vagina. Father Nizamettin Kabaiş reacted to the contradictions in the report and the confidentiality decision imposed on the case, saying, "The forensic report is released 9 months later, there are two different DNAs on my daughter's body, but it is still being called a suicide. How can this be suicide? There were injuries on her neck, and there was no water in her lungs. How can someone who drowned die without water in their lungs?"
"THERE IS NEGLIGENCE FROM THE DORMITORY AND UNIVERSITY"
Kabaiş argued that the university and dormitory management were negligent after the incident: "If it had been reported in time, Rojin would be alive today. My child was killed by negligence. Strangers come around the dormitory and drink alcohol; it is unclear who is coming and going. Is this how security works? Either there is a clear negligence, or something is being hidden."
"ROJIN'S PHONE HAS STILL NOT BEEN SENT TO PORTUGAL"
Father Kabaiş also shared the latest status of the investigation. In his meeting with the prosecutor, he emphasized that he learned Rojin's mobile phone had still not been sent to Portugal and that the examination was planned to be conducted with local experts. The grieving father stated, "When the phone is opened, new information will be obtained. The statement that the water dragged the body has been removed from the file."
"I AM RECEIVING THREAT MESSAGES"
Nizamettin Kabaiş stated that he has received threats due to his fight for justice for Rojin, saying, "I receive messages on WhatsApp like 'Give up on this case, we have you.' One number is from Indonesia, the other is from Iran. We reported it to the prosecutor's office, but we are not afraid."
"THREATS WILL NOT SILENCE US"
Kabaiş expressed his belief that his daughter's death was a murder and reacted to the confidentiality decision imposed on the case, stating, "It has been more than a year, and there is still no explanation. What is being hidden from us? There are bruises on her body, there are different DNA samples, but it is still being called a suicide. This incident is being covered up. But we will fight to uncover the truth until the end."
