In Izmir, where garbage has not been collected for a long time, the President of the Medical Chamber, Specialist Dr. Yüce Ayhan, issued a warning regarding the increasing density of black flies in the city in recent weeks, emphasizing that necessary measures should be taken without delay.
The garbage crisis in İzmir, which has lasted for months, along with strikes and disruptions in cleaning services, has created a breeding ground for the rapid increase of houseflies. The presence of houseflies in homes, restaurants, and vehicles poses a health threat. The density of houseflies, especially in the metropolitan districts of İzmir, has become a nightmare for citizens.
Dr. Yüce Ayhan, the President of the İzmir Medical Chamber, made important evaluations regarding the increasing density of houseflies in the city in recent weeks.
Ayhan emphasized that the increase in flies poses a risk to public health and stressed that necessary precautions should be taken without delay, also highlighting the importance of waste separation at home.
"WASTE MANAGEMENT IS CRITICAL FOR PUBLIC HEALTH"
Dr. Ayhan, emphasizing that houseflies are disease-carrying vectors, stated that this situation could lead to small-scale infection clusters rather than large outbreaks. He pointed out that the occasional garbage collection problems in the city could increase the fly population, and he highlighted the importance of regular waste management, saying, "They are disease carriers. They may not cause large outbreaks, but they can create small cluster infections. Waste management is very important in this regard."
"HOUSEHOLD WASTES NEED TO BE SEPARATED"
Dr. Ayhan stated that leaving garbage exposed facilitates fly breeding and emphasized that household wastes should be separated correctly. He also expressed that it would be beneficial for both the environment and health for citizens to leave their garbage in tightly sealed bags in containers and to collect recycling waste separately.
