The President of RTÜK, Ebubekir Şahin, announced that the Famagusta series, which portrays Turkish soldiers as occupiers, will not be broadcasted on Netflix. NETFLIX TAKES A STEP BACKOnline series and movie streaming platform Netflix recently announced the release of a scandalous series. In the Famagusta series, which is a production of the Greek Cypriot side, Turkish soldiers are portrayed as occupiers. Following the reactions, negotiations between RTÜK and Netflix management resulted in an outcome. RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin announced that the series will not be broadcasted on Netflix. STATEMENT FROM RTÜK PRESIDENTIn his statement, Şahin stated the following: "To the Public! The production named 'Famagusta' has been met with reactions from the Turkish public due to its content against the heroic saga of our recent history, the 'Cyprus Landing.' The 'Cyprus Peace Operation,' which aimed to defend the just cause of Turkish Cypriots and rescue our oppressed compatriots, brought peace to the island within the framework of the law. The heroic Turkish soldiers brought peace and tranquility to Cyprus, stopped the bloodshed, and wiped away the tears of the oppressed. FAMAGUSTA WILL NOT BE BROADCASTED IN TURKEYIt is unacceptable for some circles to come forward with a film that defames the Turks, our country, and our heroic army with ill intentions, despite the historical facts. The production has previously been broadcasted on television in its country of origin and later licensed by Netflix. As the Supreme Council regulating and supervising digital broadcasting services in our country, we have conducted the necessary negotiations with the broadcaster Netflix, and an understanding has been reached that the production will not be broadcasted. The said production will only be available in the Netflix catalog of the country where it was previously broadcasted (Greece) and will not be included in the catalog of Turkey or any other country. Respectfully announced to the public."
