The global technology giant Siemens has announced that it will lay off 6,000 employees. Of these layoffs, 2,600 will take place at the company's facilities in Germany. This decision by the company could lead to thousands of workers losing their jobs. Details are not yet clear, but the layoffs are expected to begin in the near future.

Siemens has also been added to the consecutive decline in market share and the decrease in profit margins. The German technology company Siemens plans to lay off more than 6,000 people, primarily in automation, by 2027. It has been reported that the company presented its plans to further enhance its global competitiveness to employee representatives.

EMPLOYING 68,000 PEOPLE

According to a report by Türkiye newspaper, these plans will affect the automation units in the company's digital industrial division and the electric vehicle charging section in the Smart Infrastructure division, as changing conditions and challenges in key markets necessitate capacity adjustments in both cases. The statement indicated that Siemens announced it would make capacity adjustments due to ongoing weaknesses in the company's automation business in November 2024, stating, "Siemens Digital Industrial Division employs approximately 68,000 people worldwide. The planned reduction will affect approximately 5,600 people globally."

It was stated that 2,600 of the layoffs would occur at the company's facilities in Germany. The layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of the 2027 fiscal year. Additionally, the German company plans to lay off 450 people, including 250 in Germany, in the electric car charging station section, which will separate from the Smart Infrastructure building technology division. Siemens emphasized in its statement that decreasing demand and increasing competitive pressures in key markets, especially in China and Germany, have significantly reduced orders and revenues in the industrial automation sector, making capacity adjustments necessary.

EMPLOYMENT IS BEING REDUCED AS SALES FALL

Siemens, which has 312,000 employees worldwide, employs 86,000 people in Germany. Roland Busch, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Siemens AG, had stated that the company might lay off employees worldwide due to ongoing weaknesses in the automation business in November 2024. Busch noted that the employment contraction would be below or in the mid-four-digit range, stating that no exact figure had been determined yet. The continued layoffs in the German industry, shaken by weak demand both domestically and internationally, draw attention.
