The verdict was announced in the case regarding the armed assassination of former Ülkü Ocakları General President Sinan Ateş in the middle of the street in the Çankaya district of Ankara in 2022. In the trial held at the Sincan Prison Campus by the Ankara 32nd Heavy Penal Court, the shooter Eray Özyağcı, the instigator Doğukan Çep, Vedat Balkaya, and Tolgahan Demirbaş were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. It was decided to continue the detention of Commissioner Mustafa Ensar Aykal. Serdar Öktem and Çağlar Zorlu were released under judicial control. After the announcement of the verdict, the first statement came from Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş. Ayşe Ateş said: "The foot soldiers were tried in this trial. From their seats, they are trying to prevent the prosecution of the criminals. We experienced this today. We want justice. Is our mistake asking for justice? If we had stayed silent, they would have been very happy, I guess. I am not going anywhere; I will continue the justice march until every criminal is held accountable. We will see who is stronger, the master or the servant!"
