The discussions regarding the budget of the Ministry of Interior began contentiously in the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission. Before the meeting, a debate arose between AK Party and CHP deputies regarding the appointment of trustees. A scuffle occurred during the entrance of Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya into the hall. The tension did not decrease in the commission room either. Due to the trustee appointments, CHP deputies prevented the commission from entering the hall. "IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE"While the repercussions of the incident continue, a statement also came from the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş. Evaluating the tension experienced before the discussions on the Ministry of Interior's 2025 budget proposal, Kurtulmuş stated, "The fact that these images were presented at the entrance of the Planning and Budget Commission was, above all, a disrespectful act against the democratic functioning of the Assembly and the legislative oversight function of the Assembly. It is not possible to accept this." Kurtulmuş, who said, "I believe it is also unfair to the members of the Planning and Budget Commission who work with such great sacrifice," added, "We expect all our parliamentary administrators to fulfill their responsibilities." "THE IMAGES DISTURBED OUR ENTIRE NATION"After the incident, Kurtulmuş stated that he called CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and conveyed that they were not pleased with the situation. Kurtulmuş continued his speech as follows: "All party leaders have significant responsibilities. Not only 86 million citizens but all nations are closely following what is happening in the TBMM. Actions that exceed their purpose at that moment leave permanent damage on Turkish democracy. The Assembly is a place of struggle and negotiation, but it is not a place where one deputy disrespects another or disrespects a minister. These images disturbed our entire nation. As soon as this emerged, we see that social criticisms arose. I reiterate my call to all group leaders. This assembly will work until 2028 and will be the assembly that will do work for the benefit of the nation."
