After US President Donald Trump announced that they had halted strikes against Iran, five nights of silence were broken. Iran announced that it had targeted the US base in Jordan and CENTCOM with ballistic missiles and struck three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the US and Saudi Arabia conducted a joint airstrike on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, while the Popular Mobilization Forces reported that 8 people were killed and 4 were wounded in the attacks.
Tensions in the Middle East have risen again after five nights of mutual attacks ceased, following US President Donald Trump's announcement that they had stopped strikes against Iran. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that a US air base in Jordan and the headquarters of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) were targeted with numerous ballistic missiles. At the same time, it was announced that three oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz were struck, while the US and Saudi Arabian militaries also carried out a joint airstrike on Iranian-backed militias in Iraq.
US BASE IN JORDAN AND CENTCOM TARGETED
According to reports in Iranian official media, a statement from the Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack was carried out "in response to the aggressive actions of the US military."
The statement emphasized that "resistance will continue as long as threats against Iran and illegal and hostile actions against the interests of US forces persist," and called on the US administration to end its threats and "illegal interventions."
The US military had previously announced that numerous ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward US forces in the Middle East had been intercepted, describing the attack attempt as an "unexpected attack attempt."
While the US Central Command (CENTCOM) did not disclose the name of the location Iran sought to target, reports in the Israeli press indicated that Iran had launched ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan.
Iran's attack came after US President Donald Trump announced he had stopped striking Iran. Mutual attacks had ceased for five nights.
3 OIL TANKERS STRUCK IN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ
According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, a statement from the Revolutionary Guard Corps' Naval Forces said three oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz "continued to proceed along a route deemed dangerous and illegal despite warnings."
The statement, which said the tankers in question were targeted and forced to stop, warned that the US military's "interventions and illegal instructions to ships in the region" would not go unanswered.
JOINT AIRSTRIKE BY US AND SAUDI ARABIA
In a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), it was reported that Iranian-backed groups, which were said to have been directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to attack US forces and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, were targeted.
The statement said US and Saudi warplanes conducted airstrikes on logistics centers and weapons depots belonging to the groups in various areas in eastern Iraq.
The statement, which said the strikes were in response to more than 30 drone attacks attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps over the past 72 hours, emphasized that attacks targeting US forces had failed.
The CENTCOM statement also noted that during the February-April 2026 period, more than 600 attack attempts were made by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq against US citizens and facilities.
The statement warned that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the groups it supports must cease their attacks, otherwise they could face new US military interventions.
SAUDI ARABIA: TARGETS BELONGED TO IRAN-BACKED MILITIAS
A post on the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense's social media account included statements from Ministry Spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki.
Maliki stated that Saudi Arabia's air defense systems neutralized numerous drones that attempted to target oil facilities in the country's Eastern Province and Riyadh on July 27 and yesterday.
Stating that the attacks were carried out from Iraqi territory and by Iranian-backed militias, Maliki said Saudi Arabia has the right to defend itself and its capabilities. He also expressed that the Riyadh administration "reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place."
Maliki announced that, under the right to self-defense guaranteed in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, in coordination with CENTCOM, carried out "specific and precision strikes" on targets in Iraq belonging to Iranian-backed militias identified as being linked to attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Emphasizing that Saudi Arabia is not seeking escalation, Maliki stated it would respond to any attack on its country.
HASHED AL-SHABI: 8 DEAD, 4 WOUNDED
Hashed al-Shabi announced that 8 people were killed and 4 others were wounded in attacks carried out by US and Saudi Arabian militaries on various locations in Iraq.
The statement argued that the attacks amounted to "a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and the targeting of official security institutions," describing the events as "an extremely dangerous escalation."
