As part of the corruption investigation conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it has been decided to release Ibrahim Özkan, the advisor to Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is continuing its corruption investigation against suspects, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his position as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) after being arrested, on charges of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "bribery," "extortion," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender."
İMAMOĞLU'S ADVISOR DETAINED
As part of the investigation, İmamoğlu's advisor İbrahim Özkan was detained. After his detention, Özkan gave a statement at the prosecutor's office and the Peace Criminal Court at the Istanbul Courthouse.
RELEASED
A decision was made for Özkan, whose statement procedures at the prosecutor's office and the Peace Criminal Court have concluded. It was decided that Özkan would be released.
WHO IS İBRAHİM ÖZKAN?
İbrahim Özkan, the former Deputy Group Chairman of the İYİ Party in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), criticized the İYİ Party's decision to enter the local elections on March 31 "independently and freely" and argued that support should be given to Ekrem İmamoğlu through cooperation with the CHP in the Istanbul elections. Özkan, along with 6 İBB council members, resigned from the İYİ Party at the end of last year. Özkan was appointed as İmamoğlu's political advisor in November 2024.
