In the future, dental treatments can be performed by robot dentists. Perceptive company in Boston has developed an automated system that works faster than human dentists. Supported by Ed Zuckerberg, the father of Facebook founder, the company has created a system that uses 3D imaging and robotic arm. This robot aims to reduce the dental crown procedure, which normally takes two hours, to 15 minutes.
Experts have introduced the first fully automated robotic dental system designed to work faster than human dentists. Boston-based company Perceptive has released a video showing a robot performing tooth drilling and filling.
The company is backed by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's father and dentist Ed Zuckerberg. Perceptive has developed an artificial intelligence-supported 3D imaging software and robotic arm capable of performing restorative dentistry.
The robot aims to reduce the tooth crown procedure, which normally requires two visits and at least an hour each, to 15 minutes.
The system creates detailed 3D models from teeth to nerves and can capture images from under the gum line and inside liquids. It is also claimed to provide safe treatment even in moving conditions.
The device is still in the development stage and there is no specific release date. Perceptive's next step will be to obtain regulatory approval."
