In Balıkesir, the fact that Mehmet Keşniş's geese descend to the beach in flocks every morning to enter the sea has disturbed some citizens. Following a complaint to CİMER, authorities informed Keşniş that he should not let his geese outside or allow them to enter the sea, stating that otherwise, legal action would be taken. It was claimed that 8 of the geese, which were locked in the coop about a month ago due to the complaint, died from heat and stress.

Mehmet Keşniş, a father of two living in the Erdek district of Balıkesir, is known for his love of animals. His farm life began 11 years ago with two geese he bought on the advice of a friend to eat the weeds in his garden. Over time, the number of geese increased. Keşniş did not slaughter or sell the geese that grew in his garden.
GESE THAT ENTERED THE SEA REPORTED TO CİMER Every morning, the geese that leave the café's garden in a flock have been going to the beach and entering the sea for years. The number of geese reached 30 in 11 years, attracting the attention of the locals. When some people complained to CİMER, the officials from the District Agriculture Directorate asked Keşniş not to let the geese outside and not to let them into the sea.
8 GEESE DIED WHEN CONFINED TO THE COOP Mehmet Keşniş's daughter, Başak Keşniş (36), stated that they confined the geese to the coop about a month ago to avoid legal action, and that 8 of the geese died due to hot weather and stress. She said, "Some people from the neighborhood complained that the animals were roaming too much. They had to come from the District Agriculture Directorate and told us, 'You need to remove them. Otherwise, we will impose a penalty.' We had to remove the animals. They are currently imprisoned."
Başak Keşniş noted that those who were used to seeing the geese in the sea were curious and saddened, saying, "Many people are asking, 'Where are they? We used to feed them. Why can't we see them?' But unfortunately, there is no solution."
Başak Keşniş "THEY ARE IMPRISONED HERE" Keşniş expressed that those who want to see the geese back on the beach and in the sea have said they will collect petitions and apply to CİMER, stating:
Mehmet Keşniş "They are imprisoned here. People know their own lives, but they are willing to keep the animals closed here in such hot weather. We reluctantly had to confine them to avoid penalties. They are forced to stay in the coop all day. People complain immediately. They are obsessed with cramming animals into places. They ask where they are. People still bring food and throw it to them, thank goodness. But of course, there are also ill-intentioned people. They say they are roaming outside and entering the sea. People pollute the sea much more. What harm can come from the mess they leave? At most, there will be footprints."
"THERE ARE ANIMAL RIGHTS TOO" Nilüfer Duruoğlu (53), one of the residents who expressed sadness over the decision, stated that geese, which are animals with webbed feet, must be allowed to swim in water, even if only for a short time, emphasizing that this is a heavy decision for the animals. Duruoğlu said, "No animal's rights should be violated. There is a right of the servant, and they also have animal rights. It shouldn't be like this."
