Heavy rains in the tourist city of Malaga, Spain, have paralyzed life. Moments captured by security cameras show a citizen rescuing an elderly woman trapped in the flood by carrying her in his arms. The Spanish meteorological agency AEMET issued a red alert due to rainfall reaching 70 millimeters in just one hour in Malaga. Authorities evacuated more than 4,000 people for safety reasons. About 3,000 people living around the Guadalhorce River had to leave their homes, while schools and workplaces in the city were closed, and train services were canceled. Local resident Ester Espinosa said, "We are building barricades to protect our homes. The situation is very serious." Just two weeks after the flood disaster in Valencia that claimed 224 lives, new rains are causing concern. Professor Jess Neumann from the University of Reading in the UK stated, "Thanks to the quick evacuation decision in Malaga, potential loss of life was prevented." Experts warn that the recent flood disasters are directly linked to climate change and that similar events may continue to increase.
