In the Selçuk district of İzmir, five siblings aged between 1 and 5 lost their lives in a fire caused by the overturning of an electric heater. Neighbors who witnessed the fire said, "In the evening, their mother went outside to collect scrap. She supposedly said, 'I'm going to buy them bread.' An electric heater was burning inside. The heater overturned, but no one knows how it happened. While we were at home, she screamed, 'My children, help!' We went to her voice. When we looked, all five of them were lying on top of each other."

Five children, aged between 1 and 5, who were left at home by their mother Melisa Akcan after she locked the door behind them to go collect scrap, lost their lives in a fire that broke out from the stove. It was learned that their father, Hakan Akcan, is in prison for a crime.

The incident occurred around 7:00 PM in a single-story house located in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of Tavşantepe. According to reports, Melisa Akcan, whose husband Hakan Akcan is in prison for a crime and who supports her family by collecting scrap, left her 5 children at home and went out to collect scrap. During this time, a fire broke out due to the stove tipping over. The flames quickly engulfed the entire building, trapping the siblings named Aras Bulut (1), Masal Işık (2), Aslan Miraç (3), Funda Peri Akcan (4), and Fadime Nefes (5) inside.
