According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), a statement was made by the new government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling for the USA to ease its sanctions on Syria. "SANCTIONS NEGATIVELY AFFECT THE PEOPLE"The statement expressed that the sanctions became invalid with the overthrow of the Assad regime and are now negatively affecting the Syrian people. A call was made for the complete lifting of these sanctions to ensure stability and prosperity in Syria. No response has yet been given to the call made to the USA. EXEMPTION RECEIVED WITH SATISFACTIONAdditionally, the statement noted that the new government welcomed the USA's provision of a 6-month exemption allowing certain energy and remittance transactions to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to the country. The US Treasury Department had reported that a 6-month exemption was granted for transactions with state institutions, as well as for certain energy and remittance transactions, to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria. With the license published by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), non-commercial personal money transfers related to transactions with government institutions in Syria, as well as activities supporting the sale, supply, storage, or donation of energy, including oil, petroleum products, natural gas, and electricity to or within the country, and transactions conducted through the Central Bank of Syria were permitted until July 7.
