A 15-year-old girl living in Samsun has her joints dislocating for no apparent reason. Asel Sena Tengiz, a high school student residing in the Atakum district, has been diagnosed with a rare medical condition. Asel, who experiences 'spontaneous bilateral sternoclavicular joint dislocation,' had a dislocation occur in the joint where her collarbone connects to her breastbone and in the joint that connects her collarbone to her shoulder blade, without any reason, a year ago. Due to her illness, Asel Sena Tengiz has been going from hospital to hospital without finding a solution. Her quality of life has decreased significantly due to her joints constantly dislocating in her social life. Subsequently, she started physical therapy at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center. "THE ONLY CASE IN THE WORLD"Prof. Dr. İlker İlhanlı, the responsible physician at the OMU Faculty of Medicine Hospital Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, who is involved in Asel Sena Tengiz's treatment, stated that the patient, who experiences spontaneous dislocation in the joint connecting the collarbone and shoulder blade, is the only case in the world. Prof. Dr. İlhanlı said, "Our patient is a very rare case. She has a condition that has been reported 60 times worldwide since 1979. The situation is 'bilateral spontaneous dislocation of the joint where the collarbone connects to the breastbone.' The 60 cases reported since 1979 actually include those that are 'unilateral or bilateral.' The difference with our girl is that she has bilateral dislocation. Since that date, only 10 cases have been reported. We have an additional condition that makes it unique. Therefore, it becomes the only case in the world. Additionally, it is also the only case in the world where spontaneous dislocation has occurred in the joint connecting the collarbone and shoulder blade. We have implemented personalized treatment and rehabilitation. As a result, we are facing completely successful outcomes. No dislocation incidents are occurring anymore. Her posture has improved significantly. We have resolved her joint-related issues. Due to its uniqueness, we will present this case. It will attract attention. We believe it will be instructive for many physicians who may encounter such a case," he said. "IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY AND FOR NO REASON"Asel Sena Tengiz, describing the difficulties she faced, said, "I noticed this condition a year ago when I raised my arm. It happened suddenly and for no reason. The fact that it was for no reason was the problem. We consulted many hospitals and doctors. Generally, the recommendation was surgery. In our research, we learned that surgical operations could cause some problems for us in the future. Finally, we consulted with Dr. İlker. The physical therapy applied for a year yielded results. Due to being the only case in the world, academic research was conducted. Everything done was experimental, but despite that, significant progress was made," she said. "WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS"Elif Ulukan, a physiotherapist at the center, stated, "We implemented a completely personalized treatment program for Asel. We included breathing exercises in the treatment program. We applied taping therapy. Asel is the only case in the world where both sides dislocate without any reason. We have made great progress," she said. Asel, who continues her treatment, is getting better every day.
