The DEM Party Member of Parliament, Sırrı Sakık, stated in his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly that members of parliament receive double salaries, saying, "Including myself, 499 members of parliament receive double salaries." Sakık described this situation as wasteful and suggested that the funds should be used for poor children.

While the salaries of MPs and the low prices in the Parliament cafeteria are frequently discussed in the public, this time the issue was brought to the agenda of the General Assembly. DEM Party Ağrı MP Sırrı Sakık described the privileges in the Parliament as "waste" during his speech in the discussions of the 2026 Central Government Budget Law.

CRITICIZED THE PRIVILEGES IN THE PARLIAMENT

Sakık, in his speech at the podium, drew attention to the privileges granted to those who have served as the Speaker of the Parliament, stating, "Everyone who has served as the Speaker has an office. They all have 4 staff members, and vehicles at their doors. There is a Parliament that takes their children and grandchildren. They also formed an Advisory Board. They receive a salary equivalent to a pension from the Presidential Complex. The Presidential Complex has no concern to consult with them. There are serious criticisms towards the Parliament," he said.

"499 MPs RECEIVE DOUBLE SALARIES"

Touching on the issue of double salaries, Sakık said, "They always talk about double salaries... I researched, including myself, 499 MPs receive double salaries. But young MPs do not receive this money," he stated. Sakık suggested that a bill should be proposed to end this practice.

"1 BILLION TL COULD BE SPENT ON POOR CHILDREN"

Sakık noted that the annual cost of the double salary practice is approximately 1 billion TL, stating that this resource could be used for poor children in Anatolia. He expressed that if steps are taken from the Parliament, actions could also be taken regarding those receiving salaries from the Presidential Complex.
