According to the proposal, stray dogs will be collected and taken to shelters.

UP TO 2 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR OFFICIALS WHO DO NOT IMPLEMENT THE MEASURE

According to the 17-article proposal that amends the Animal Protection Law prepared by the AK Party, the authority regarding stray animals will be in the hands of municipalities. Officials who fail to implement the measure may face up to 2 years of imprisonment. The proposal also includes penalties for those who abandon their pets and those who contribute to the increase in the population of stray animals.

60,000 TL FINE FOR ABANDONING OWNED DOGS

Those who abandon their owned dogs on the streets will be fined 60,000 Turkish Lira per animal. Municipalities or associations that leave dogs in vacant lands outside the city will also be fined 50,000 Turkish Lira per animal. Stray dogs will be neutered and kept in shelters.

According to the regulation, stray dogs will be neutered, vaccinated, and taken care of in shelters until they are adopted.

"EUTHANASIA" TERM REMOVED

During the committee meetings, the term "euthanasia" was removed from the proposal text through a motion. Instead, the phrase "the provisions of Article 9, Paragraph 3 of the Veterinary Services Law shall apply" was added to the text. Additionally, the proposal was updated to include only stray dogs, not all animals.
