Due to social media posts, the Provincial Chairman of the National Path Party in Osmaniye, Süleyman Özer, who was detained on the grounds of "insulting the President," was released today after his statement was taken.
Süleyman Özer, the Provincial Chairman of the National Path Party in Osmaniye, had been detained for allegedly insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan due to his social media posts.
A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE
Özer was released today after his statement was taken. In a statement he made after his release, Özer said, "In the incident that occurred yesterday, screenshots of my personal information and awareness posts on Facebook were taken, and a complaint was filed with the police by someone with malicious intent. The police did their duty and took my statement," he said.
Özer also stated, "I emphasized two points in my posts. The first is how much the Greater Middle East Project (BOP) would harm the Turkish nation and other Turkish Islamic states, and the second is who killed Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu, why his case has not been opened, and why those accused due to the statute of limitations have not been prosecuted. I expressed that Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu is not without a protector. During this process, I thank my family, my esteemed lawyer, my deputy chairman, the Provincial Chairman of the Victory Party, and the board members for being by my side," he said.
"IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE DO NOT CONTAIN INSULTING INTENT"
Özer's lawyer, Muhammet Güloğlu, stated, "He is a person well-known by the public in Osmaniye. His posts are politically oriented. They are aimed at raising awareness. They are critical in nature. It is clear that these do not contain insulting intent. However, a wrong assessment and insufficient investigation led to an investigation being initiated against my client. My client has been released. We are following the process. We believe that a decision will be made very soon stating that there is no basis for the investigation. The public in Osmaniye did not leave us alone during this process. We thank them as well," he said.
