Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş visited Dilek İmamoğlu, the wife of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, at their residence after her husband was taken into custody upon returning to Turkey in the morning. Speaking to the press outside, Yavaş responded to a question regarding his presidential candidacy by saying, "This is not the time to discuss that."
During a series of visits abroad, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş returned to Turkey following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Shortly after his arrival, Yavaş visited Dilek İmamoğlu and made statements to the press upon his exit.
"THE JUDICIARY MUST PROVIDE CONFIDENCE"
After the meeting, Yavaş stated, "We are supporting as a family. The Turkish nation sees what is happening. Our only wish is for the law to prevail. There is a politicized judiciary. The judiciary must provide confidence. Still, the law is the harbor we can rely on."
"HE WOULD HAVE RUN TO GIVE A STATEMENT"
Yavaş expressed that if called to give a statement, İmamoğlu would have run to do so, saying, "Previously, Mr. Ekrem had been called to give a statement two or three times, and he went running. The same could have been done again. It is inappropriate to come with 20 vehicles and search the house as if a terrorist is being captured, and to take him away in such a hurry. If he had been invited, Mr. Ekrem would have gone."
ANGERING QUESTION
Continuing his remarks, Yavaş appeared tense when asked a question regarding his candidacy for the presidency, stating, "We will be at Saraçhane in the evening. A rally will be held again. This is not the place to discuss the presidential candidacy. All of us, including myself, will go to the polls. We will show our reaction strongly on March 23."
