The prepared indictment requests a prison sentence of up to 15 years for Özer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ahmet Özer, the Mayor of Esenyurt, was detained at his home on October 30. In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Terror and Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, Özer was subject to a detention order due to his alleged involvement with the terrorist organization PKK/KCK. It was claimed that he committed the alleged crime by establishing an organic connection with organization leaders through communication intercepts, physical surveillance records, bank account movements, and intense and continuous interactions. Upon the request of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a search warrant was issued by the Istanbul Duty Magistrate. Özer was arrested by the duty magistrate on October 30 for the crime of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" after his statement.
