The AK Party has submitted a new bill regarding the penal execution system to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The proposal increases the duration of execution in residential settings from 1 year to 3 years. While no changes are made to supervised release, a condition is introduced requiring convicts to serve at least one-tenth of their sentence in prison in order to benefit from this right.

The AK Party has submitted a new bill containing regulations on the penal execution system to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler announced that the proposal aims to increase the effectiveness of penalties and includes comprehensive changes.

"WE AIM TO INCREASE THE DETERRENT EFFECTIVENESS OF PENALTIES"

Speaking about the execution package submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly at 3:00 PM today, AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler stated that the proposal anticipates changes in 9 different laws or articles and noted that this regulation is a starting point. Emphasizing that no changes have been made to the 1-year supervised release application, Güler said, "We want to ensure that convicts spend at least one-tenth of the time they must spend in prison until the conditional release date in the penal execution institution. In this way, we aim to increase the deterrent effectiveness of penalties," he stated.

THE DURATION OF HOUSE ARREST IS INCREASED TO 3 YEARS

Another prominent headline in the bill is the extension of the duration of house arrest. Güler announced that the duration of house arrest, which is currently 1 year, has been increased to 3 years. He also announced that individuals who commit repeat offenses for the second time will be allowed to benefit from supervised release under certain conditions.

"MORE TO COME" MESSAGE

Güler added that this proposal is only a beginning and that other regulations regarding the criminal justice system will also come to the agenda in the future.
