Credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards saw a payment amount of 1 trillion 488 billion lira in October, marking a 78% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for the month of October. Accordingly, as of October, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 127.8 million, the number of debit cards reached 193.1 million, and the number of prepaid cards reached 109.5 million. THE NUMBER OF CREDIT CARDS AND SPENDING ALSO INCREASEDWhen compared to the same period last year, there was a 12% increase in the number of credit cards, a 4% increase in the number of debit cards, and a 28% increase in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards reached 430.4 million in October, showing a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. The total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in October also increased by 78% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 trillion 488 billion lira. Of the card payments, 1 trillion 252.6 billion lira was made with credit cards, while 204.8 billion lira was made with debit cards, and 30.6 billion lira was made with prepaid cards. In October, the growth in payments made with credit cards compared to the same month last year was 83%, while it was 49% for payments made with debit cards, and 97% for payments made with prepaid cards. THE NUMBER OF CARD PAYMENTS INCREASED BY 12% YEAR-ON-YEARThe number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in October increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.63 billion. In numerical terms, 924 million of the card payments were made with credit cards, 575.5 million with debit cards, and 127.7 million with prepaid cards. The growth in the number of payments was 16% for credit cards, 5% for payments made with debit cards, and 27% for payments made with prepaid cards compared to the same period last year. 82% INCREASE IN ONLINE CARD SHOPPINGOnline card payments increased by 82% compared to the same period last year, reaching 432.1 billion lira. The share of online card payments in total payments was 29%. The number of online card payments also increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, rising to 236.5 million, accounting for 15% of total payments. The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 20% compared to the same period last year. The amount of contactless payments increased by 93% compared to the same period last year, reaching 472.6 billion lira. In October, approximately 4 out of every 5 card payments made in stores were contactless.
