The naming of the street where the house of the late founder of the Contemporary Life Support Association, Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan, is located has caused tension between the AK Party and the CHP in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council. Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who stated that the issue was rejected in the previous term with the votes of the AK Party, said, "We will somewhat soothe the bleeding consciences." AK Party Group Spokesperson Faruk Gökkuş responded, "When we take the majority in the council tomorrow, we will hopefully change the name again."

The name of Türkan Saylan was given to the street where she lived in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Council. AK Party Group Spokesperson Faruk Gökkuş said, "When we take the majority in the council tomorrow, we will change the name." Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat responded to Gökkuş's words by saying, "We do what the people say. The people made their decision on March 31st."

PROF. DR. TÜRKAN SAYLAN'S NAME WAS GIVEN TO THE STREET WHERE HER HOUSE IS LOCATED

In the third session of the İBB Council in July, it was decided by majority vote to give the name of Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan to Karakavak Street in Beşiktaş Arnavutköy, where her house is located. Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat thanked the council members for the decision. Akpolat pointed out that Türkan Saylan was a true Republican intellectual and said, "She spent the last period of her life in her house in Arnavutköy, turned into a prison due to the FETÖ conspiracy. She is an important value for us because of her fight against leprosy and her efforts to educate girls."

DISCUSSION ABOUT TÜRKAN SAYLAN BETWEEN AK PARTY AND CHP GROUPS

Akpolat reminded that they brought the proposal to give the name of Türkan Saylan to the street where her house is located to the İBB Council in the previous term and said, "Unfortunately, it was said, 'as long as we are here, as long as AK Party has the majority, the names of people like Türkan Saylan who divide the society will not be kept alive in any way.' This has hurt the conscience of the society. We will fulfill our teacher's right with this decision we have made. We will somewhat alleviate these bleeding consciences." AK Party Group Spokesperson Faruk Gökkuş, in response to Akpolat's words, said, "I used that word in the previous council meeting, and I stand behind my words." Akpolat replied to Gökkuş, "In the previous term, it was said in this council, 'as long as we are here, this name will not be given.' We are saying this now, our İBB President uses this expression in every statement: 'Now, there is no me, individuals, communities, foundations, there is the nation.' Whatever the people say, that's what happens."

AK PARTY'S GÖKKUŞ: WHEN WE TAKE THE MAJORITY IN THE COUNCIL, WE WILL CHANGE THE NAME AGAIN

Gökkuş said, "They set up a conspiracy against Türkan Saylan, just like they did against traitor FETÖ, all intellectuals, police officers, and soldiers of Turkey. If it weren't for Tayyip Erdoğan, it would not have been possible to prevent that conspiracy. When we take the majority in the council tomorrow, we will change the name again, God willing."
