At a wedding held in Şanlıurfa, the cake served to the guests caused 60 people to be poisoned. The groom's father said, "Whoever is at fault will be identified. They should face the consequences. I am deeply ashamed and feel like I've sunk to the ground."
Sixty guests who ate cake at a wedding held in Şanlıurfa were hospitalized due to poisoning. While the guests were discharged after their treatments at the hospital, the groom's father filed a complaint against those operating the wedding hall.
The incident occurred in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa. Halil İbrahim Elmas and Aleyna Akdeniz, who live in the district, wanted to unite their lives with a wedding. Many people, consisting of friends and relatives, attended the invitation at the wedding hall.
A 10-TIER CAKE WAS SERVED TO THE GUESTS
Those attending the wedding danced the halay and shared in the couple's happiest day. At the wedding where no meal was served, a 10-tier cake was brought for the bride and groom to cut. Towards the end of the wedding, the bride and groom cut the cake together and tasted it. The cake was later served to the guests.
VOMITING BEGAN AFTER THE WEDDING
Guests began to experience complaints of abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Realizing they had been poisoned, the guests rushed to the hospital. Throughout the night, approximately 60 guests went to the hospital with the same complaints. The patients were treated with IV fluids. It was learned that the bride and groom were not affected by the cake as they had only tasted it.
"I AM VERY EMBARRASSED"
The groom's father, Abbas Elmas, expressed that he was very embarrassed to the guests, saying, "We had our wedding. I had the cake cut because I didn't serve food. About 40-50 people have been poisoned. We reported this to the police and sent it for analysis. Whoever is at fault will be identified. Let them face the consequences." Elmas added, "I felt like I was in the ground, I was very embarrassed. I wish this hadn't happened. They said the number of poisoned people is over 50," he stated.
"FIRST THE CHILDREN STARTED VOMITING"
Metin Laçin, stating that a person's life is not that cheap, said, "My uncle's son got married last night. We were invited to the wedding. My uncle didn't prepare any food, he served a sponge cake. After eating the sponge cake, when we got home around 1:00 AM, the vomiting started. Almost 12 people from my family were poisoned. We stayed at the hospital until 9:00 AM. My family, my wife, my children, and I, we all got poisoned. First, my little girl came to me and said, 'I vomited.' I looked and said, 'It will be fine.' Then the other child vomited. After my wife started vomiting, I also began to vomit. I called my mother and explained the situation. My mother said, 'We are at the hospital, come quickly, you are getting poisoned.' So we went, and they put us on IV. As my uncle said, there was poisoning up to 60 people. A person's life is not that cheap," he said.
