2 defendants slapped with jail terms in same case.

A Tunisian court has sentenced a suspect to death in connection with the killing of a police officer in a stabbing attack in 2019.

The court also jailed two suspects for four and seven years in the same case, while a fourth defendant was acquitted, the communications office of the First Instance Court in the capital Tunis said in a statement on Saturday.

The first defendant was also slapped with a fine of 350,000 Tunisian dinars ($120,000).

Saturday's verdicts are not final and still can be appealed.

In September 2019, a Tunisian policeman was stabbed to death and a soldier injured in an attack outside a courthouse in the northern city of Bizerte.

Although courts issue death verdicts, Tunisian authorities have not implemented any death sentence since 1991.
