The film "One of the Days When Hemme Died," written and directed by Murat Fıratoğlu, has been selected as Turkey's candidate for 'Best International Film' at the 98th Academy Awards. The film focuses on the anger-filled journey of agricultural worker Eyüp.
Turkey will compete in the 'Best International Film' category at the 98th Academy Awards with the film 'One of the Days When Hemme Died', written and directed by Murat Fıratoğlu.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; as a result of the evaluation made by the 15-member Turkey Oscar Selection Committee, composed of representatives from professional unions in the cinema field under the coordination of the General Directorate of Cinema, 'One of the Days When Hemme Died' was determined as Turkey's Oscar candidate by a majority vote among the 14 films that applied.
WORLD PREMIERED IN VENICE
The 2024 film tells the story of agricultural worker Eyüp's anger-fueled journey to kill his boss Hemme, who does not pay him for his labor in the tomato drying business, in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa. The film is directed, written, and stars Murat Fıratoğlu, with a cast that includes the director's relatives and local people. The film, which had its world premiere in the 'Orrizonti' (Horizons) section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival held from August 28 to September 7, 2024, was awarded the 'Jury Special Award' there. The film then won the 'Best Film' award at the 31st Adana Golden Boll Film Festival held from September 23 to 29, 2024.
