Turkey is starting work not only on oil and gas exploration in Somalia but also for a space base. In a speech at the MYK meeting, President Erdoğan announced that Turkey will establish a space base in Somalia. It has been learned that Somalia has granted a visa for investment, and the project's cost is estimated to be around 6 billion dollars. CLOSE TO THE EQUATORTurkey's ballistic missile program requires long-range tests, which is why the base is of great importance. Somalia's location at the eastern edge of the African mainland is known to be ideal for launching towards the Indian Ocean. Since the country is close to the equator, it is also seen as suitable for a spaceport. Tests conducted near the equator will also help increase the range and efficiency of space rockets. WILL PROVIDE A GREAT ADVANTAGE TO TURKEYIf the project materializes, Turkey will say 'I am here too' in the space race traditionally dominated by global powers. Somalia, which is the third option after the Baikonur Base used by the Russians in Kazakhstan and the work done by SPACE X and NASA in Florida, will provide a significant advantage to Turkey. "FISHERMEN FROM SARIYER WILL GO TO SOMALIA"Additionally, it has been learned that President Erdoğan shared information at the meeting that Turkish sailors will teach Somalis how to fish. In Somalia, which lacks sufficient natural ports, the fishing sector is exploited by other countries. According to a report in the Turkey newspaper, these unregistered activities deprive Somalia of a gain of 300 million dollars. Turkey has rolled up its sleeves to put an end to this situation. Erdoğan was quoted as saying about the issue, "I told the fishermen in Sarıyer. They will go to Somalia and give them fishing lessons."
