In the tourist city of Nadi, Fiji, two staff members of Virgin Airlines were attacked after New Year's celebrations. One female and one male staff member were victims of rape and robbery by different assailants while returning to their hotel. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, as the staff were leaving a nightclub called Bar One. According to the police report, the flight crew was attacked while trying to return to their hotel from the venue they visited for New Year's celebrations. Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister Viliame R Gavoka stated in a press release regarding the incident, "The events are extremely sad. The health status of the victims is being closely monitored." The police have identified the suspect in the sexual assault and an investigation has been initiated. A spokesperson for Virgin Airlines announced that a special team has been sent to Fiji to support the victimized staff. It was reported that the male staff member was hospitalized due to facial injuries, and both victims are currently resting in a safe hotel. Officials from the Australian Cabin Crew Association described the incident as "very disturbing" and expressed their concerns about the safety of airline personnel. Three more staff members are staying in the area to assist with the investigation. The police have warned tourists to be cautious late at night. Fiji police announced that a comprehensive investigation into both incidents is ongoing and that the suspects will be apprehended as soon as possible. Virgin Airlines management stated that they will review the staff safety protocols for flights to Fiji following the incident.
