Last night, an earthquake occurred in Malatya, and Geologist and Seismologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made striking statements during a live broadcast he participated in.
Görür, who joined the NTV broadcast, stated, "An earthquake occurred between the Yeşilyurt-Malatya fault in the southern parts. The East Anatolian Fault, including the faults in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, has largely broken. The energy released was injected into Malatya." Emphasizing that the fault is very slow, Görür said, "It can produce an earthquake above 7."
"HAS NOT PRODUCED AN EARTHQUAKE FOR 2,500 YEARS"
Görür pointed out that the fault produces an earthquake every 2,500 years, stating that the last earthquake occurred in 500 BC. He expressed concern that "the period of the fault may have expired," adding, "I am worried if it moves and an earthquake above 7 occurs."
"CONSTRUCTION NOT COMPLYING WITH REGULATIONS"
Görür emphasized that immediate work should begin, indicating that the building stock in the region is not good, and stated, "Construction is not being done in accordance with the regulations and is not being inspected."
