In the case where Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu allegedly called the members of the Supreme Election Council (YSK) "fools," the Istanbul Anadolu 7th Criminal Court sentenced him to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison and imposed a political ban for 4 years.
SPOKE BEFORE DEPARTING FOR THE USA
While the decision from the Court of Appeals is awaited, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements at Istanbul Airport before his departure to the USA.
"WE ARE CONSIDERING EVERY POSSIBILITY"
Speaking about what they would do if a political ban is imposed on İmamoğlu during his time in the USA, Özel said, "Our provincial chairman and deputy chairman will lead that meeting. We have assigned 6 deputy chairpersons. Our Mayor of Istanbul will attend part of the meeting. I had a one-on-one meeting with him last night, and we evaluated this ourselves. We are considering every possibility."
"HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED FROM THE SLAP OF DEMOCRACY?"
Such an agenda should not be allowed to settle. There is no such nonsense, no such unconsciousness. I do not think they will allow Turkey to experience such a disgrace. Have you not learned from the slap of democracy? If you did not learn from the last slap of democracy, the nation will deliver a much harsher one. Let's say it happened while we are in the USA, we would return immediately. I do not believe we will wake up to such a day. We are in a position that considers all possibilities from A to Z," he stated.
