The opening ceremony of Dicle University in Diyarbakır for the 2025–2026 academic year turned into a stampede with the participation of thousands of students due to mandatory attendance. After the hall was completely filled, some protocol members left the ceremony.
CRISIS AT THE CEREMONY AREA
After the university administration sent a message stating that attendance to the ceremony was mandatory for all faculties, thousands of students flocked to the hall. While many students were left outside in the quickly filled hall, the sections reserved for guests were also filled by students. This situation led to a space crisis in the ceremony area.
THEY WERE ASKED TO GET UP FROM THEIR SEATS
According to a report by CEGA Media; Co-Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Region Municipalities Union (GABB) and Co-Chair of Bağlar Municipality Siraç Çelik, Co-Chair Leyla Ayaz, and Co-Chair of Kayapınar Municipality Cengiz Dündar attended the ceremony upon invitation. However, when an official asked them to get up from the front rows they were sitting in, stating that those seats were reserved for "those coming from the Assembly," a brief discussion ensued. Although the chairs were directed to another area, they left the hall after a while.
THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE
The ceremony was also attended by the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş and approximately 30 members of parliament. This was the first time in the history of Dicle University that such a large participation was achieved.
