The former president of Fenerbahçe, Ali Koç, announced at the High Advisory Board meeting that the foreign capital company that purchased 4.8% of the club's shares is Citibank. Koç called for support for the new management while making harsh criticisms regarding the discussions in past meetings and the events that occurred during the process.
In the meeting of the Fenerbahçe High Advisory Board, former president Ali Koç made important evaluations regarding the club. Koç announced that the foreign capital company that acquired a 4.8% stake is Citibank and argued that it is not correct to look for malicious intent around this transaction.
"WE MUST SUPPORT THE NEW MANAGEMENT" CALL
In his speech, Koç congratulated Sadettin Saran and his management and called for unity within the community:
"I congratulate Mr. Sadettin Saran and the board of directors once again. Our duty from now on is to support the new management. A new era has begun. As a community, we must unite around the new management."
WHAT HAPPENED ON MEETING DAY AND CRITICISMS
Koç, who stated that they had previously emphasized that some items raised on election day should be allowed by the management, pointed out that the process has been prolonged:
"We insisted that the items that should be allowed by the management on election day were important. We said that the club's activities would be paralyzed. These did not pass with the atmosphere of that day... It was approved seven times, and the eighth was rejected. The process unnecessarily prolonged. Lobbying for this and confusing people is harmful to Fenerbahçe."
DISCUSSION ON SHARE SALE AND CAPITAL INCREASE
Koç responded to allegations regarding the 4.8% stake and continued his remarks as follows:
"Mr. Murat said he had thoughts of not selling shares. We would not have such a purpose either. These permissions are important for capital increase. There is the issue of the 4.8% stake, as if I had bought it and as if it were secret. This agreement was made with Citibank. What is the purpose of looking for malicious intent underneath? In the past, shares were sold in much larger amounts, but nothing happened. This money was used for bank debts, player salaries, and other needs. When the 4.8% was purchased, there was an uproar, and those who caused this uproar are known to everyone."
EMPHASIS ON UNITY AND CHAMPIONSHIP
Koç concluded his speech with messages of unity and support, calling for the management to be facilitated:
"We must pave the way for the new management and act together. Let’s spend our energy on winning the championship, not on debt restructuring. Hopefully, we will experience championship under the leadership of President Sadettin... We will not be a hindrance but a support. In the end, it is not the managements that win, but Fenerbahçe. We will provide the support that we have not experienced or seen to Sadettin Saran and his team. May God keep their paths open, and may they have plenty of luck. We must unite around them for their success. Let’s leave this destructive politics behind. Let’s not cut the branch that Fenerbahçe is sitting on!"
