Two-month-old Melisa Doğan was hospitalized with a high fever and later passed away. The baby's father filed a complaint, alleging that the mother was negligent. The mother and caregiver were arrested on charges of causing death by conscious negligence.
In Beyoğlu, 2-month-old baby Melisa Doğan reportedly died in the hospital where she was taken due to high fever complaints. After the incident, father Deniz Doğan filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, stating, "I don't know for sure if the woman next to her has a residence permit, but the baby's mother does not have a residence permit. She was signing monthly thanks to the baby. I am complaining about the mother; she neglected the baby."
DIED IN THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS TAKEN DUE TO HIGH FEVER COMPLAINTS The incident occurred on February 7 at around 03:15 in the Bülbül neighborhood. According to allegations, Deniz D. (41) and Kenyan Lindah Nyamoıta S. (26) left their 2-month-old baby Melisa D. with her mother, Isha K. (34), who is a caregiver from Sierra Leone, and went to work. The caregiver noticed that the baby had a fever during the night and reported it to the health teams.
Melisa D. was taken to Taksim Training and Research Hospital by emergency health teams who arrived at the scene following the report. It was determined that Melisa D. had a seizure due to high fever, and despite all interventions, she passed away.
FOUND THE BABY MOTIONLESS WHEN SHE CAME TO CHANGE THE DIAPER After the incident, the Kasımpaşa Police Station teams initiated an investigation. It was learned that mother Lindah Nyamoıta S. left the baby with caregiver Isha K. saying she was going to work, and the caregiver stated in her testimony that when baby Melisa D. was brought to her, she was ill and that when she got up at night to change the baby's diaper, she found her motionless and called for an ambulance. Following this, emergency health teams arrived at the scene, took the baby, and transported her to the hospital, but it was determined that the caregiver did not get into the ambulance and instead wandered around for about 2 hours trying to find out which hospital the baby was taken to.
MOTHER AND CAREGIVER ARRESTED It was learned that mother Lindah Nyamoıta S. stated in her testimony that her baby was not ill. Father Deniz D. indicated that he had not seen the mother and child for about a week. The father's statement was taken as a witness regarding the incident. Meanwhile, after the procedures at the police station, mother Lindah Nyamoıta S. and caregiver Isha K. were referred to the courthouse and were arrested by the court on charges of 'causing death by conscious negligence' and sent to prison.
"SHE WAS SO DRUNK SHE COULDN'T TALK" The baby's father, Deniz Doğan, spoke after filing a complaint with the prosecutor's office, saying, "I separated from my wife a month ago. The last time I spoke to her about the baby was around 12:00 on Wednesday night. She said the baby was ill. On Wednesday night, I went to the baby, went to her house. When I left the house, I left 5,000 lira for her to take the baby to the hospital and left. I did not see the child again. I told her to take the baby to the hospital. I called the woman all day asking, 'Did you take the child to the hospital?' but I did not get a clear answer. I spoke on the phone until 12:00 at night; the whole day went like this. It got dark, and the woman was still not home; it was as if she had left the house. That day she took the child, took her away, kidnapped her. On Friday, I pressured her again over the phone. I asked, 'Where is the child? Did you take her to the hospital, did you bring her back?' but again I did not get a clear answer. I kept talking on the phone until 12:00 at night. The baby's mother was extremely drunk; she didn't even know what she was saying. I fell asleep around 01:00. I woke up around 04:00 and checked my phone. The phone was on silent; I saw the calls. I called back; she was too drunk to talk. I asked, 'Where are you?' She said she was in a taxi. I asked to speak to the taxi driver, and I talked to him. He also told me he didn't know what to do. I wanted her to be taken to the nearest police station," he said.
"DIFFERENT PEOPLE TOOK CARE OF THE BABY EVERY DAY" Deniz Doğan stated, "The woman who was left in the house where the baby died was also in the taxi. She is not a caregiver; she is a friend and has been with her for the last month. Different people took care of the baby every day. She would leave the baby and go out, drink alcohol, get drunk, and have fun in clubs. She does not do any work. Until a month ago, I paid all the rent and expenses completely. For a month, she was out as an escort; she had messages about this. I don't know for sure if the woman next to her has a residence permit, but the baby's mother does not have a residence permit. She was signing monthly thanks to the baby. I am complaining about the mother; the mother neglected the baby," he said.
