In the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, four cousins who were poisoned due to carbon monoxide gas in a water well were buried side by side after an autopsy was performed. The incident occurred when Kemal Karabağ descended into the well, followed by his other cousins who went down to help.

Last night in the rural area of Petekkaya neighborhood in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, Kemal Karabağ (18) went down to clean a water well that was about 15 meters deep and had not been used for a long time. When Kemal Karabağ did not come out, his cousins Mehmet Karabağ (33), Mehmet Emin Karabağ (35), and Hanifi Yeşilyaprak (38) also went down into the well. Contact was lost with all four cousins shortly thereafter.
Concerned relatives reported the situation, and search and rescue teams from Çermik Municipality, AFAD, health, fire, and gendarmerie were dispatched to the area. The teams determined that the four individuals had died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator in the well they descended with ropes and ladders. As the bodies were being retrieved, relatives who received the news were overcome with tears.
WELL CLOSED, COUSINS BURIED SIDE BY SIDE
After the prosecutor's examination, the bodies were taken to the Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy. It was reported that the carbon monoxide level measured in the well was 500 ppm, which is known to cause death at 200 ppm and above. The well was closed by the Çermik Municipality teams using heavy machinery in the morning hours.
BODIES BURIED SIDE BY SIDE
After the autopsy procedures, the bodies were brought to the Hazreti Hüseyin Mosque in the district. After the funeral prayer held there, the cousins' bodies were taken to the Çivan hamlet in the rural Kartaltaşı neighborhood and buried side by side in the family cemetery. It was reported that Mehmet Karabağ was married and the father of 4 children, Mehmet Emin Karabağ was the father of 5 children, and Hanifi Yeşilyaprak was the father of 2 children. Kemal Karabağ was reported to be single.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
