In Mersin, an 80-year-old man was brutally beaten by an attacker wearing a helmet and gloves while he was sitting in his garden. The elderly man, whose neck was attempted to be broken and who was seriously injured, was taken to intensive care, while the horrifying moments were captured on camera. The suspect, who was caught and arrested by police teams after examining 380 hours of footage, confessed that he attacked due to an incident that occurred years ago.
An 80-year-old man, who had been experiencing difficulty walking for about 3 years, was brutally beaten by a helmeted person while sitting in his garden at his home.
HE TRIED TO BREAK THE OLD MAN'S NECK The incident occurred on July 24th on Turkmen Street, Koyuncu Neighborhood, in the Erdemli district. According to the information obtained, Hasan Huseyin Belen (80), a father of 6 children who had difficulty walking for about 3 years, was attacked by a person wearing a helmet and gloves while sitting in his garden. The attacker, who tried to break the old man's neck, kicked the man's head repeatedly after he fell to the ground and then fled. Hours later, his daughter Ayfer Uyanik, who came to feed her father, saw the situation and called for help. Health teams arriving at the scene took the old man to Erdemli State Hospital. After initial intervention, Belen was referred to Mersin City Hospital and admitted to intensive care. The incident was captured second by second on the security camera in front of the house.
HELMETED SUSPECT DETAINED Teams from the Provincial and District Police Department's Public Order Branch, coordinated by the Erdemli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, launched an investigation into the incident. The police followed the cameras in the vicinity and the City Security System step by step, starting from the helmet. After reviewing 380 hours of footage from 114 security cameras and field work, it was determined that the suspect, who was believed to have arrived by motorcycle, was A.Y. (47), living in a nearby area. The suspect was caught in an operation conducted simultaneously at 3 addresses. The suspect, who was taken into custody and referred to the courthouse on charges of attempted intentional murder, was arrested by the court. It was learned that the suspect confessed to the incident and said he had beaten the old man due to an incident that occurred years ago.
"HE COMES FROM BEHIND AND TRIES TO BREAK HIS NECK" Ayfer Uyanik, stating that her father is 80 years old, said, "He has had great difficulty walking for 2-3 years. He can only barely manage his own needs. He's a person who moves very slowly, walking with support. Last week, on Friday, July 24th, in the afternoon, he was beaten. I didn't know he had been beaten at that time. When I came home to feed him dinner, I saw my father lying face down in front of our house. At first, I thought he had a heart attack or fell while walking. Then, when I turned him over, I saw his face was covered in blood, bruised, and one side of his head was misshapen. Of course, I had a panic attack at that moment. There was a security camera at home. When I saw my father like that, I even forgot the camera existed. I immediately called 112, police and ambulance arrived. The police noticed the camera. They asked, 'Is the security camera working?' I said, 'Yes, it is.' We opened it and looked at the recordings backwards. There, someone with a helmet on their head and gloves on their hands comes from behind my father while he's sitting in a chair and tries to bend his neck from side to side. During that struggle, my father falls to the ground with the chair. When he falls, he crushes my father's head with his foot. Saying 'I've neutralized him,' that man runs away towards the bushes," she said.
"BRUTAL ATTACK, LET HIM GET THE HEAVIEST PUNISHMENT" Uyanik, stating that her father is fighting for his life in the anesthesia intensive care unit at Mersin City Hospital, said, "They say he has a 1% chance of survival. They say brain death has occurred. If you ask if there's a chance he'll get better, I don't think so. Let the suspect receive the heaviest punishment. Whatever the heaviest punishment of justice is, let him get it. I trust justice, I trust our laws. Let him get the heaviest punishment. I mean, how can you have a grudge against an elderly person? Suppose you are enemies, even an enemy wouldn't do this to an elderly person. This is a barbaric act, a barbaric attack. This is a barbaric state of mind. I can't offer any other explanation," she said.
