The 5.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Kütahya caused great panic in Istanbul as well. After the tremor, air traffic controllers issued warnings to landing aircraft, and for safety reasons, a runway inspection was conducted, halting flight traffic for 5 minutes. While many planes were instructed to go around the runway, flight traffic returned to normal after no risky situations were detected during the inspections.
According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale was recorded at 12:59, centered in Simav. The earthquake was felt in surrounding provinces, including Istanbul, causing panic among citizens.
WARNING ISSUED TO LANDING AIRCRAFT
Immediately after the tremor, air traffic controllers issued warnings to landing aircraft. For safety reasons, a runway inspection was conducted, and flight traffic was suspended for approximately 5 minutes. During this time, two aircraft had to go around the runway.
NO RISKY SITUATIONS DETECTED
After the inspections were completed, no damage or risky situations were detected. Following this, flight traffic returned to normal.
