Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who came to Ankara for the NATO Summit, shared his Turkish coffee experience on social media. He commented on the taste of the coffee and the tradition of fortune-telling.
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who came to Ankara as an invited guest for the 36th NATO Summit, shared a video of himself drinking Turkish coffee.
Minister Motegi shared the video from his account on the US-based X company's social media platform.
"UNIQUE"
In his post, Motegi said, "In Turkey, I drank authentic Turkish coffee during breaks between various meetings and talks. Turkish coffee is unique not only in its preparation and drinking but also in that it continues to provide pleasure after being consumed."
The video in the post shows Motegi experiencing Turkish coffee in Ankara, where he came as an invited guest for the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit.
Noting that Turkish coffee comes to mind when Turkey is mentioned, Motegi explained that Turkish coffee is made by boiling water directly without using a filter, and after the grounds settle at the bottom, the clear part on top is drunk.

Later, after tasting the coffee, Motegi commented:
"It's not as bitter as I thought, but it seems to have a natural aroma. One characteristic of Turkish coffee is that its enjoyment continues after drinking. What do you do? You turn the cup upside down and wait. Then, apparently, fortune is told from the coffee grounds left inside the cup. I will try to predict how international situations will develop from now on by reading fortunes."
