Greece has made a notable offer to its citizens to increase the population in three villages near the Edirne border. The Athens government announced that a support payment of 10,000 euros (500,000 TL) will be provided to those who settle in the villages of Soufli, Orestiada, and Dimetoka. These villages are located just 25 kilometers away from the city center of Edirne.
Greece is preparing to implement the regulation accepted last February. The neighboring country will accelerate its efforts to increase the declining population in Western Thrace.
500 THOUSAND TL WILL BE GIVEN
With the regulation accepted in the Greek Parliament, Greece has announced that it will start providing support payments to increase the settled population in villages neighboring Edirne, with a payment of 10 thousand euros, which is approximately 500 thousand TL, to citizens who settle in the villages along the Meriç River.
It was announced that a support payment of 6 thousand euros will be made for those who will move to settlements with a population of over 500.
INCREASED FOR EACH CHILD
Moreover, this amount will be increased by one thousand euros for each child in the family, and total support payments can reach up to 10 thousand euros.
VILLAGES HAVE ALSO BEEN IDENTIFIED
Additionally, the names of the sample villages to be settled under the project have also been determined. These villages, where the Turkish population is also significant, have been identified as Sofulu (Soufli), Kumçiftliği (Orestiada), and Dimetoka (Didymoteicho), located along the border line in the Evros province where the Meriç River is found.
