In Şanlıurfa, Adile Akdağ, who gave birth in an ambulance seven months ago, had her baby Mert Asaf registered as a girl at the hospital. The mother stated that they are fighting to correct the gender registration of their child, saying, "Due to the mistake at the hospital, my baby's gender has been recorded as female," and she requested that their grievance be addressed.
Mert Asaf, who was born 7 months ago in Şanlıurfa, was registered as a 'girl' in the hospital. The baby's gender was also recorded as female on the identity card, and the family has filed a complaint.
The incident occurred on May 3 in the Akçakale district. Adile Akdağ (24), who was pregnant with her first child, had her labor pains increase, prompting her family to call an ambulance. Akdağ gave birth in the ambulance while being taken to the hospital. The mother and her healthy baby boy were taken to the Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital's Obstetrics Clinic in Eyyübiye district. After being treated there, both the mother and baby were discharged. Upon completing the hospital procedures, the family saw on the birth report they obtained through e-Government that their child was registered as a girl in the hospital. Consequently, the identity registration made at the civil registry office was also arranged as female. The Akdağ family stated that they have been fighting for 7 months to correct their child's gender record but have not received any results.
"NOBODY NOTICED"
Adile Akdağ, who described their suffering, stated that her son Mert Asaf was registered as a girl due to a mistake made afterwards, expressing that she gave birth in the ambulance. Akdağ said, "I gave birth in the ambulance on May 3, 2025. Later, they transferred us to Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital. My husband went to the civil registry office to get an ID without obtaining the birth report. Due to the error in the hospital, my baby's gender was recorded as female. Nobody noticed. However, my baby is a boy. We named him Mert Asaf. We later realized the situation and filed a complaint."
"WE HAVE APPLIED MULTIPLE TIMES"
Mert Asaf's father, Yasin Akdağ, stated that they noticed their baby was listed as a girl on the identity two days after the birth. Akdağ emphasized that their grievance has not been resolved for 7 months, saying, "I want this mistake to be corrected. We have applied multiple times. Our baby needs to be examined. However, they direct us to Gaziantep or Diyarbakır to obtain a report. We do not have the financial means. We are waiting for help from the authorities to correct our baby's gender record and to resolve our grievance."
